Everything You Need To Know About Reddit Site Ranking:
Reddit is an American social news site that rates content following discussions on your website. Those who participate in Reddit must be registered members who are allowed to submit their content to the site.
The content submitted included images, links and text posts which are then voted up or down by the participating members.
This social site is extremely powerful but the community is not easy to break into and it does not take kindly to manipulation and marketers.
All About Reddit:
Therefore before joining Reddit, you need to have a basic idea of how this community functions. The community members share content amongst themselves and then the members vote the content down or up. When votes are cast on each posted article, the results determine which articles make it to the front page every day.
More often than not, the comments attached to the posted articles end up gaining more popularity than the links.
So if your post makes it to the front page on Reddit, you can be certain of a significant number of visitors to your site on that particular day. However, you do not have to be on the front page to get a lot of traffic to your site.
Can Reddit Help Improve Your Site’s Page Rank On Google?
Reddit cannot help increase your website’s ranking on Google. It can, however, help direct more visitors to your site if you are careful not to spam. The site has many active participants who are quick to delete links that are not useful to members of the platform.
To stay relevant within this community you need to actively participate by posting, asking questions and giving useful information that doesn’t include your links. Once you become a reliable sub-reddit user, you can begin adding your links without spamming of course.
Reddit is also great for generating back-links to your site. As long as you are not spamming and your links are getting voted up, you gain direct traffic from the Reddit site as well. If your key objective is getting rankings on Google, Reddit back-links can help you achieve that as long as you ensure that you get additional Web 2.0 back-links too.
Don’t pay too much attention to one source for the back-links. It’s important to be diverse. Other than Reddit, join another sub-reddit that will be relevant to the links you post and your site.
Using Reddit To Improve On Your SEO Ranking:
Although the Reddit community is large, there are certain psycho-graphics and demographics that give you a better appreciation of the community you’re engaging with. A good number of Reddit users fall between the age of 20 to 30 years old and these are individuals keen on receiving daily news and other fun articles. Some use the site as a social media platform to interact with like-minded peers. This community is diverse and very dedicated.
Overall, this community is very dedicated and committed to the site. This means that if they sense your intentions for joining are not pure, they will most likely drive you out. So understanding the community is key in determining how successful you’ll be in improving your articles and site’s ranking.
Your Mindset Is Key:
Suppose you’re a member of Reddit but have not been active. You will not get favorable ranking by the other members. Your mindset must be one of service and community.
If your posts are only focused on you and your business then there is a pretty good chance that the community will not accept you. This means that your articles will be voted down or worse still get marked and flagged as spam.
It’s okay to promote yourself but you should focus more on offering quality service to the Reddit community. The last thing you want is to be marked as a spam marketer.
When you post or answer another member’s question in the comment section, your agenda should be helping that individual solve a problem by offering a plausible solution. People on Reddit tend to up-vote any helpful content. This, in turn, improves your chances of getting your articles voted up and your site getting good traffic.
Reddit In Relation To SEO:
When used appropriately, Reddit can help generate a lot of traffic to your site. If done wrong, however, it could end up being a complete waste of time. To get the most from Reddit, you must understand the kind of content that gets high ranking.
Your articles should be targeted to a specific audience. If people visit your site to read the articles which are making sense to them, chances of these visitors sharing the articles across other social media platforms are higher. Secondly, creating articles for your target audience ensures you build quality back-links. These links are key in directing more traffic to your site in the long term.
Posting Compelling Content In The Right Platforms:
Other than developing content that adds value to the community members, you should also post content with compelling titles and posted inappropriate website links. Avoid using URLs with links shortened.
As a beginner, you quickly realize that the effort spent on subreddits is key in helping build a name for yourself within the community. Reddit is not the kind of platform you want to use for posting all your articles. However, strategically used, it can help you build traffic to your articles and site. It can be a great indicator of which of your articles are a success or not.
By responding to community members’ comments, it can help you build a reputation. More to that, you can get valuable information on your market through interaction with ideal potential clients.

Hi Wayne,
Great post. I have seen incredible results from Reddit. I find it most effective to use Reddit for guide/lesson posts instead of review posts though. For example, I got hundreds and hundreds of hits per day for a guitar lesson post I did once but got like 2-3 for a review. Both were equal in quality, but people don’t care to share review posts. However if they find something super helpful in their day to day they are more likely to “upvote” or share. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the comment. I agree with you get better results with a lessons post rather than reviews. Good lessons posts are more likely to be shared as you say people usually know someone who is having the same problem as them and it turns out to be very helpful.

Thank you for this article on Reddit. I used to use it quite a bit, but in the meantime have gotten busy with other things and it has fallen by the wayside.
Obviously, it is not a great idea to post internet marketing stuff, unless it is really helpful to the community. I don’t think they would appreciate a review of some site you are trying to promote?
Thank You, Yes I know what you mean, websites can take a lot of time to maintain.
Your right we should not be just posting our sites to market them, our main thing here is as you say helping the community and in return the community will visit our sites if they are relative.

What you’re saying is pretty true. I tried reddit to get traffic to my site. As I’ve not been an active member in the subreddits, I got banned for spam and till today, I’m still unable to post anything on that particular subreddit. I would have avoided making that mistake had I stumbled on your article back then.
Yes Reddit is really tough on spam, sorry for your ban and that seems like they are going overboard with it. Hopefully others will take this to heart and be very careful about spamming on Reddit.
I had heard of Reddit before, but really didn’t know what it was. I am curious if this is a time consuming process…providing information, getting on Reddit. You say you don’t put in your links, just information? So if I have a travel site, I would provide various travel information? This all gets me more visitors, which I would love.
In replying to your first question the short answer is yes it is time consuming, Myself you should only use it if you like this type of work (forums) and have the time as it takes time to work your way into the advertising part. It’s a slow process but if you like this type of work it can be very rewarding.
